The Long Dark

Autumn. And just like that it went cold overnight.

Yesterday was a big nippy but this morning it’s cold. Four degrees as I slipped out of bed and wondered if I’d done the wise thing.

I expect this week to be particularly busy. Tuesday is the presidential debate and I aim/hope to be awake for it, though that it particularly difficult with the current situation when I have to be up early. Might be a matter of three hours sleep. We’ll see. Also hoping to get around to do a podcast.

For that reason, I’ve been trying to have a relaxing weekend. I’ve just finished the first episode of The Long Dark, a fantastic independent game from Canada, which is part survival / part adventure. It’s wonderfully written and just beautifully executed. It’s also perfect given the weather. I have wrap myself up and play it, turning the TV loud so I can hear the whistle of the wind. Perfect for a lazy Sunday.

I hope.

Why Dunciad.com?

It’s a cool domain name and it was available. Yes, I know. Available. Crazy, isn’t it?

Really?

Yes. It also helps that it’s also my favourite satire written by Alexander Pope, one of the most metrically pure English poets who also knew his way around a crude insult or two. If you’ve not read it, you should give it a try.

So this is satire, right?

Can’t deny it. There will be some. But it’s also an experiment in writing and drawing, giving work away for free in order to see how many people are willing to support a writer doing his thing. It’s the weird stuff that I wouldn’t get published elsewhere in this word of diminishing demands and cookie-cutter tastes.
